4D printing and Smart Medical Devices

The use of 4D printing in the field of small-scale robots remains unexplored due to challenges in miniaturizing smart materials using available 3D printing techniques. 

Our lab is currently exploring new smart materials and fabrication techniques to create 4D printed small-scale robots for medical use, such as minimally invasive surgical tools for precision medicine. For example, we are currently working in tight collaboration with physicians and surgeons to create a 4D printed smart microstent for the relief of congenital obstructive urophaties.
